Tantra: Interwoven Yoga, Philosophy and Mythology

**This course is for 200hr teachers or those enrolled in the 300hr program

What is Tantra?

How does modern postural yoga practice relate to Indian history and tradition?

How would a knowledge of Indian mythology change our reason and method of yoga practice?

And, who are we but the stories we tell about ourselves?

This introduction to Tantra will address scholarship and practice of Tantra as it travels from India to the western practitioner of yoga.

Our aim is to deepen your understanding of a view of an abundant and diverse universe. Tantric philosophy and practice offers a body and mind woven together (the word Tantra means, to weave) with stories of gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines, parables, trials and tribulations of Indian Mythology.  By cultivating an understanding of some of the history and comparisons of yoga philosophy, and comprehensive sensory practices of Tantra Yoga, you can develop a personalized practice and learn to relate these descriptions to your own life’s story. This will allow you, in turn, to help your students live into, and re-imagine their own stories.

Please note: a common western misunderstanding of Tantra is that it is a practice relating to sex acts. While sexual congress is a convenient metaphor for unity and relationship, this course is not about the act of sex.
