Donate To Open Lotus India!

I am setting up this GoFundme for a family that pours their heart into their work and welcomes every visitor in as their family. Over the last six years, I have worked with the Ram family in India with yoga and cultural retreats. It is a way for people to experience the culture that many of us teachers and eastern knowledge practitioners benefit from daily. As well we can give back and support a local family working to create and build their business and support their growing family in India.

Chappe Ram is from a Farming Family. His Father and Grandfather grew apples in Vashistha without crop from their first 15 years of work.

At age 20, Chappe started work in local tourism, specializing in Indian Himalayan High Altitude treks as a guide. In 2011 he held his first yoga Retreat in the Himalayas, incorporating asana, meditation, trekking, and camping. In 2016 he opened a small travel agency, trained in Himalayan Kundalini, and was joined by his yogi son Ganesha.

His goal now is to create a yoga center with a guest house for people to stay in for retreats and training. Using part of the apple orchard that has access to the main road leading out from the village, a yoga center here would have more availability for local travelers to stay and could more easily house yoga events for international visitors to experience this mountain village culture. Here, visitors can partake in the beautiful local trekking, hiking, festivals, food, family, yoga, and meditation seated in the glory of this sacred Himalayan village of Vashisht, near Manali where 3 Vashisht temples sit, Rishi Vashisht meditated long ago, and blessed the area with natural flowing hot springs.

This fundraiser is raising money to support Chappe and his family in their next endeavor. We are hoping to raise 15,000 USD to create the guesthouse and yoga shala. I have been to the build site. When I was there last they did puja for blessing in this space and now we are apple to offer our blessing from afar.

Anything you can donate is so greatly appreciated. You can follow @openlotus_yoga and @yogi___ganesh to meet the family, stay connected, and hopefully plan your trip to a beautiful new yoga space.

5 Days of Advanced Intensive
Oct

to Oct 22

5 Days of Advanced Intensive

Its that time of year again! Gianna is running her yearly 84 asana practice intensive.

The Classical 84 Asana Advanced practice was shared with us by Bikram Choudhury and Emmy Cleaves. Bikram was trained by Shree Bishnu Charan Ghosh, founder of the Ghosh's College of Physical Education in Calcutta, India. Bishni Ghosh trained at the Ranchi School for Boys, founded by his older brother, Pramahansa Yogananda, who you may know from the Self Realization Fellowship and/or as the writer of Autobiography of a Yogi. It is said that Yogananda practiced physical practice with his colleague Swami Sivananda Saraswati whose philosophies infuse the asana and meditation practices you may practice with us at the Siddhi School of Yoga. Sivananda's teachings originate from Yogi Matsyendranath who is said to be the first human teacher of Hatha Yoga. His chief disciple, Gorakhnath, was said to be the guru to Yogi Swatmarama (even though they lived in different centuries), who was the author of the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika says that the main objective of Hath Yoga is to create balance in activity, physical processes, mind, and energy to bring awakening which is responsible for the evolution of human consciousness.

The classical 84 asana series has been an elusive practice to many. We would flock to Bikram and Emmy for years to nerd out on this series at headquarter or advanced seminars. Since the fall of headquarters and the divide of the community, the wisdom of this practice has been scattered, changed, and molded to be marketable. Some schools continue to teach this series once a week and some have lost momentum altogether. This is why I believe a week straight of this practice is in order. Together, we will dive back into the ins and outs of this asana, ways to prepare for them, and keep a sense of humor and gratitude for our efforts.

Over the course of five days, we will break down main asana groupings using different preparatory practices in the hour sessions prior to the Classical 84 asanas, and then journey through the, often 2 hour practice.

The advanced practice will be done in the hot room at Tucson Yoga Sol. The goal is to use the body to warm up outside of the heat in the preparatory practice to be sure we are finding stability within our flexibility as we practice through the hot room practice.

Using the wisdom of Ayurveda, you will learn how to check your pulse, find breath exercises that can be practiced daily to enhance what is missing, and meditate together, to enliven and enrich our lives. Like attract like, meaning sometimes what we are most drawn to will continue creating an imbalance in the body. Learning to read your pulse is something that can be done on your own daily to make sure you are giving yourself what you need to live a balanced life of yoga.

Sunday January 22

11am Arm Balancing and Inversions:

This is an all leveled practice meant to get you excited about using your hands on the floor, building strength, and understanding your anatomy so lifting your feet off the floor does not seem so impossible. Not all arm-balanced handstands. You do not need to be a bulky strong person to get your hands down and feet up. There are great benefits for the pelvic floor, spine, upper body, and brain found in inversions. Trying them is enough to give you those benefits.

Single Session $45

Whole Experience $160

YogaOasis' 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training

YogaOasis' 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training

with DARREN RHODES & SAM RICE and Kanoe Gantz, Gianna Purcell, and Mackie Osborne

Join Darren Rhodes and Sam Rice, along with special guest instructors Kanoe Gantz, Gianna Purcell, and Mackie Osborne for the YogaOasis 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training.

We will explore and practice the many facets of yoga, to inform and support your efforts to effectively teach asana. We seek to offer a teacher training experience that honors where yoga comes from, while also supporting a safer container for learning, sharing, and growth.

The aim of this training is twofold:
1. Personal practice:
Evolve your relationship to yoga, by an in-depth study of the classic forms and biomechanics of asana (poses), meditation, and pranayama (breathing) practices. Delve into a comprehensive exploration of the more esoteric aspects of yoga philosophy, history of yoga, anatomy and so much more.

Not interested in teaching yoga? This program also functions as a stellar resource for personal development.

2. Teaching asana:
Learn to skillfully instruct a wide variety of class levels with an alignment-driven focus, which includes designing skillful sequences for each. Ascertain how to succinctly articulate the essential cues for a plethora of poses to help mitigate risk, maximize reward, and offer access to the essence of the practice. Explore ways to make your classes more inclusive.

Completion of this program allows graduates to register with Yoga Alliance® as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) at the 200-hour level.

Other topics included in this program: Somatics + experiential anatomy with Mackie Osborne; Flow + functional anatomy with Kanoe Gantz; a deep dive into yoga and philosophy with Gianna Purcell.

The Classical 84 Asana Advanced practice was shared with us by Bikram Choudhury and Emmy Cleaves. Bikram was trained by Shree Bishnu Charan Ghosh, founder of Ghosh's College of Physical Education in Calcutta, India. The Hatha Yoga Pradipika says that the main objective of Hath Yoga is to create balance inactivity, physical processes, mind, and energy to bring a call to awakening which is responsible for the evolution of human consciousness.

The classical 84 asana series has been an elusive practice to many. We would flock to Bikram and Emmy for years to nerd out on this series. Since the fall of headquarters and the divide of the community, the wisdom of this practice has been scattered. Some schools continue to teach this series once a week, some have lost momentum altogether. This is why I believe a week straight of this practice is in order. Together, we will dive back into the ins and outs of this asana, ways to prepare for them and keep a sense of humor and gratitude for our efforts.

Since the fall of headquarters and the divide of the community, the wisdom of this practice has been scattered. Some schools continue to teach this series once a week, some have lost momentum altogether.
